Hello world!!!!

Once again, SO many miracles. Arcadia is growing so much. After 2-3
months of little progress, it’s exciting to see the work picking up.
And it is picking up like crazy! Sometimes, the three of us feel like
we can’t even handle it. The work is hastening.

So Wednesday was insane and jam-packed. We had seven lessons scheduled
but we had to raincheck one because we had negative time. So we had
six lessons in one day. Sister Huang said that’s a record for her. But
it’s not the numbers that matter. It’s the people! We had a lesson
with our golden investigator (who is getting baptized this Sunday!!!).
She is definition of 给力(powerhouse). Two weeks. She progresses so fast. We just
teach her and testify to her and she just soaks all of it up. Her
testimony is already on fire. I know that she will be a huge asset to
the church. She is already a powerhouse and has so much potential. I
feel so undeserving of this miracle – I feel like this a fairy tale
story. But no, it’s real. Heavenly Father is truly preparing these
kinds of people to receive the gospel. And oh how prepared they are!
We will be finishing up the lessons with her this week and she will
hopefully be getting baptized on Sunday! So please pray for her!

We also got a FAMILY referral from a member! The parents head back to
China today so we are focusing on the kids. They went to our church a
couple of times about 10 years ago but stopped. During our first
meeting with them, one of the kids (I shouldn’t call them kids because
they’re all over 18) said he wanted to reconnect with the church. Wow.
I could already see their potential. It was a little funny though
because of the language. So the parents can only speak/understand
Cantonese and Mandarin. The kids can only speak/understand Cantonese
and English. Sister Huang and I can only speak/understand English and
Mandarin. Talk about language barrier (haha that’s kind of punny).
However, since we were focusing on the kids, we taught in English and
translated a little on the side. Anyway, we also decided to pass them
to the English elders so that they can go to an English speaking ward.
So on Sunday night, we had an FHE/pass off lesson – picture a small,
humble living room with 3 Chinese sisters, 2 English elders, a family
of 5, a member and her child and 3 languages. It was so fun and happy.
I realize how much I love being with people – especially a lot of
people. We talked about testimony and taught them how to pray. They
were so excited about prayer – the sister even did the closing prayer!
Also, they asked a lot of great questions that gave us many
opportunities to bear our testimony. There was so much love, truth,
happiness and faith in that little room. Even though we passed them
off, you can bet that we will be praying hard for them!

We had eight people come to church yesterday! What a blessing. The
family of five came, along with our golden investigator plus a new
investigator with a baptismal date and then a surprise one! It is
actually pretty frequent for people to just walk in to our church. And
sacrament meeting was wonderful. Two of the talks were given by the
elders’ new converts. They have been members for only 2 months but
their testimonies are solid. It was amazing to see how much they loved
this gospel, how much they have been blessed by it, and how much they
know it to be true. It’s amazing how much more potential people
realize they have when they have the gospel in their lives.

The senior sisters also took our zone to tour the Dodger Stadium
today! And we went to Chinatown after 🙂 Of course, we took a bunch of
pictures but since all the libraries are closed today, I will send
them next week.

I love this work so much! There’s nothing like it. Heavenly Father
continues to pour blessings upon His missionaries and upon all His
children. There is not one day where He won’t give you a miracle or
tender mercy. They are all over. Count your blessings!

Love,
Sister Huang 黃姐妹

Hello dearest family and friends!!
This week was THE best. Even though I don’t have good enough English to express my feelings properly, I hope you can feel my excitement and PURE joy through this email.
So the beginning of the week was kind of rough. But in a funny and good way. Monday night, we got locked out of our apartment. We went to throw out the trash and when we got back, we realized the door was locked and our keys and phone were still in the house. Long story short, the Zone Leaders rescued us and took us to the Alhambra pad so we stayed with Sister Chan and Sister Gong for the night. We went to the apartment office the next day and got a spare key so all was well in the end. However, I’m pretty sure I can nominate myself for being the klutziest missionary ever.
Besides that little bump in the road, our trio saw too many miracles to count this week. I wish I could share all of them, but time and space is limited, haha. I truly believe it was because we all came to a new sense of purpose and dedication to our area and to this work. Our past 3 months have been challenging and extremely humbling to say the least. However, the Lord provides when we take an extra step to sacrifice our all to the alter.
We made a contacting goal on Thursday to talk to at least 10 people everyday, no matter how busy we were. We had the faith that if we worked our hardest to reach our goal, Heavenly Father would lead us to someone who was prepared to receive the gospel.  We didn’t reach our goal Thursday, but we were extra committed Friday. We literally had zero time on Friday to go contacting, so we took 15 minutes from our dinner time to go out and find people. For some reason, all my fears of approaching and contacting people completely disappeared. We reached our goal but still didn’t find that one truly prepared person. However, we had a lesson later that evening with an investigator (Z). She had told us she wanted to get baptized, but she was going back to China on Sunday so we had to wait until she came back. However, she brought a friend (W) to the lesson that Friday evening. Her friend already went to church once. During that lesson, she told us straight up that she wanted to get baptized and join the church. We were able to set a date with her right then and there.
We had prepared a Book of Mormon for (Z) and when we gave it to her, (W) said she wanted one too. She wanted to read it as soon as possible. She wanted to finish the lessons as soon as possible. We had another lesson with her on Sunday and taught the Plan of Salvation. She literally soaked it all up like a sponge. Her whole persona was glowing. The Spirit was working through her and through us. I had to keep asking myself if this was actually happening. Miracles like these truly exist. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for (W) as she continues to progress in the gospel.
Another big miracle we had this week pertains to referrals. REFERRALS GALORE. We got a referral for two families and both of them were from less-actives. We got another referral from the English missionaries and we have already set times to teach all of them this upcoming week!
Also, we had Zone Conference yesterday so that’s why our P-day got moved to Tuesday. I love President and Sister Villanueva so much. President Villanueva is truly inspired and knows exactly what counsel and guidance to give us to best help us missionaries. Our zone conference was centered around setting goals and finding. I left that conference with a stronger commitment to set more prayerful and meaningful goals. It is repeated so often that these numbers are not just numbers. We HAVE to think of each one of them as a name of our brother and sister, a child of God! President Villanueva gave specific ways to help us be better at setting goals and also emphasized the importance of The District videos. He told us we should be watching those videos everyday. They are probably one of the most effective tools in learning how to become an effective and successful missionary. I am grateful for his counsel.
Every day this past week felt so long but in the greatest way because we were so jam-packed with work to do. It was such a blessing everyday to run from appointment to appointment, place to place, never having a minute to take a break. I love this work so much. So so so so so much. This is the happiest work. The most rewarding work. It is because it is the LORD’S work. All He wants is us to be happy and successful and to help others do the same. Therefore, HE WILL NOT LET US FAIL. The work is hastening! So many more people are being prepared! The Lord is directing every aspect of this work. I love being a missonary. I would not trade this time for anything in the world.
I wish I was more eloquent, but I want each one of you to know that you are each a child of God. He loves you more than you know. He knows you perfectly and you can tell Him ANYTHING. He wants you to talk to Him! Jesus Christ is our Savior and He suffered in Gethsamane and on the cross just for you and me. Let him be your best friend. Let him help you. With Him, anything is truly possible. With Him, you can have the purest joy! Who doesn’t want that?
I love you all! Pray to feel Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ’s love for you!
Love,
Sister Huang

Hello to my dearest family and friends!

First off, one more big HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to every single mother out
there! Jeffrey R. Holland said it right when he said “You are
MAGNIFICENT! You are doing great!”
It was also so wonderful to Skype with my family yesterday. Basically
spent 10 minutes just laughing haha. I love you guys so much! Thank
you for being my number one support team!

This week was focused on CONTACTING. We tried so many forms of
contacting. Since we are not allowed to knock doors in our mission, we
have to think of other ways. On Saturday, we did MALL contacting for
the first time. It was strange being in such a worldly place sharing
the gospel. But it was really good! We got several people’s contact
information and passed out a ton of temple pass along cards. Best of
all, we had a ward Mother’s Day activity that night and one of the
people we contacted and her daughter came! And then they showed up
with two of their friends!

Speaking of the Mother’s Day activity, it was so great. It was
organized and planned by the brothers of the ward and they did a great
job feeding us and entertaining us. I love Chinese people. Also, four
of our investigators came and each one brought a friend! MIRACLE. One
of our investigators brought her niece who is golden, but she lives
out of our area so we are going to refer her to the other Chinese
missionaries.

This week, I studied a lot about gaining a stronger testimony so that
I can teach with more power and authority. I kept coming back to the
principle of faith. We always tell our investigators how IMPORTANT
faith is. It’s the FIRST principle of the gospel for a reason! We are
commanded to do basic things to strengthen our testimony such as pray,
read the scriptures and go to church. But if there is no faith
involved when doing those things, it won’t help us in gaining and
strengthening our testimony! I reevaluated myself. Yes, I am reading
and searching the scriptures every day, I pray so many times each day
and I go to church every Sunday. But am I doing all those things with
the mindset and faith that God will answer my prayers through
scripture and that He will give me the peace and comfort that comes
from partaking of the sacrament every week? Or am I letting
discouragement and Satan get the better of me?
One thing I found that has been helping me strengthen my faith is
counting my blessings. It reminds me that Heavenly Father and Jesus
Christ lives and that they love and know me. That is why they have
blessed me with so many things. I also think of the times when I
really knew something of the gospel was true. I realized I have had so
many experiences where I felt the Holy Ghost testify to me. I can’t
deny those experiences. Instead, I must share the gospel with more
diligence because I KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE.

So I invite you all to count your many blessings. Pray and read the
scriptures with purpose. Have the simple faith to know that Heavenly
Father will answer you. I know He will and He does. I forgot who said
it but it was along the lines that out of all the names that we can
call God, He wants us to call Him Father. How beautiful is that?

Have a week full of blessings and tender mercies!
Love,
Sister Huang (黄姐妹)

Who Can Glory Too Much in the Lord?

Hello world! 你好!!

There’s so much I want to share from this week so it might be a tad
bit long!

First, I want to share one of my journal entries from this past week (sorry
if my English is bad. It has been going downhill):

April 28, 2015
“So today was basically the day I have been praying and yearning for!
I can actually say 100% that I felt the PURE joy that comes from doing
missionary work. I’ve always felt happy about doing missionary work,
but I didn’t know what this JOY was until today. And it all came from
rally LOVING and LISTENING to our investigators. Jeffrey R. Holland
said it right: ‘If we listen with love, we won’t need to wonder what
to say. It will be given to us – by the Spirit and by our friends.’
One lesson that really struck out to me from today was our lesson with
[G]. The Spirit was THERE. It was powerful and there’s no denying that
the Spirit was working through us in teaching and He was also working
through her. And I felt SO much love, care, and concern for her.
Genuine and sincere concern. So [G] never keeps our commitments. Today
was no different. Also, she doesn’t ever say much. But today was SO
different. Through the Spirit, we were able to ask inspired questions
and she opened up to us. She has had a rough couple of months. We told
her that we can’t 100% understand what she went through nor can we be
there every time she needs to talk, but you know who can? Jesus
Christ. He understands EVERYTHING. And who can she talk to whenever
and wherever? HEAVENLY FATHER. We bore our testimonies. She very
willingly recommitted herself to pray everyday. Oh my goodness, my
heart was so full of love and gratitude. I was about to explode from
happiness and from the presence of the Spirit.”
I am so grateful for moments like these. Tender and merciful moments from
Heavenly Father. I also read Alma 26 this past week and LOVED verse 12.
“Therefore, let us glory, yea, we will glory in the Lord; yea, we will rejoice, for
our joy is full; yea, we will praise our God forever. Behold, who can glory too
much in the Lord? Yea, who can say too much of his great power, and of his
mercy, and of his long-suffering towards the children of men? Behold, I say
unto you, I cannot say the smallest part which I feel.”
Ammon NAILED it. I can’t even express my gratitude in English, much less
in Chinese, but I want each of you to know, and each of my investigators to
know that my thoughts are exactly like Ammon’s. I will praise our God forever.
I also want to share how amazing it is to be serving in Chinese work. Our
numbers are not high regarding missionaries and members but there is still
POWER. Last week, the five of us Chinese sisters spent one morning doing
studies together. These four other sisters I work with, each one is so special
and each one teaches me so much. The Spirit testified to me that morning
that we are all where we are supposed to be. We will be successful as long
as we completely rely on the Lord. Also, yesterday was testimony meeting!
We have a fairly small ward, but there was never a single pause between
testimonies. I’ve never felt the Spirit so strongly at a testimony meeting.I love
these members so much.Their faith is an example to me and I feel spiritually
rejuvenated each time we visit them or simply just being with them.
One more highlight: our English class students are volunteering to say the
opening and closing prayers now!!! I go home every Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday night extra happy 🙂
Take some time this week to glory in the Lord! I know He loves us and cares for
us SO much! Have a fantastic week!
Love,
Sister Huang
